Friday in Spain- It's just a walk!!!

The walk just seems long and arduous-- must be the backpack because my back is fine -- now its the muscles in my toes that are asking for a break!!! And I am going so slow even I tink I'm slow!!

We met a nice girl from Estonia who spoke perfect English because she is studying in Scotland and might do her phd at Berkeley!! Elo from Estonia, about 6'2"!!! We had a nice chat and then I asked Elo to espouse on the meaning of life!!!

She said she, partly, is taking the camino so she can, and she feels is the key to life to for her, to figure out what it is she wants to do, to figure out what others want her to do, and to be able to recognize and see the difference going forward!!! And then choose for herself!!

She also made a point of letting matt know this is a personal definition, and everyone is entitled to their own!!!

Then she turned the tables and asked me the same question--- I told her she'd have to read my blog because it is all just too long for a one day walk--- but in a nutshell my thoughts revolved around acknowledging the gifts we have been given, and then using those gists to the best of our ability to spread love in the world!!

So, we're just walking but got into a nice groove with Elo!! And the clouds provided great shade from the sun so never too hot, but my body continues to reject the notion of walking 15 miles a day after 18 mos back on Wall Street at a desk!!

It feels good now, though. Matt and I are at the bar, its 11:17pm and all the pilgrims are asleep, but we are at the bar watching Real-Madrid play Juventos in the peace cup soccer/football semifinal.!!! When in Spain!!!
We had a great traditional Galacian dinner at a Pulporia in Melide, our resting stop for the night. Pulpo, Octopus!!!! Matt got some great pictures I'll put on the blog of the Octopus cooker and the Octopus, and yes we had it and YES, its outrageously good here in Galacia region of Spain!!! An we followed that up with the traditional "Tarte de Santiago", which Matt originally thought was boring but now is loving!!!

Another somewhat cool thing about the walk is how I am remembering the same steps from 2007 and letting Matt know what is similar and what is different, and even what songs I was thinking about or why!!! I remember so much, so many things, of my last walk that are coming back to me fondly during this walk. Some I share with matt, some I don't. He is just amazingly rolling with the punches, walking and not complaining or anything. Not that he should, as he sees this is a great, great experience.

Tried to get Matt to go back and forth with me on Beatles songs but he declined to sing out loud-- I sang "yellow submarine" at the top of my lungs, then he "named" Sgt Peppers but wouldn't sing it!!! No one around for a mile, but he declined to play--

We've established on musically educational thing, however--- matt can name and knows the four Beatles--- I just so took it for granted that everyone knows that but last night singing a George Harrison song it was clear that Matt didn't have the whole Beatles history, so we did a "Ed Sullivan, Let it Be, the Dakota 1980 and Central Park memorial, etc learning lesson for Matt!!

It is, in my opinion, important for people to know the Beatles-- their songs, their history, etc--- one of the foundations. I'm big on the B's!!!! Beatles, Bruce, Bob ( as in Dylan!!)

So we had dinner tonight with another German who is doing his second Camino, and then we met.....
AMERICANS!!!!! OMG-- yes, there are a few scattered here and there so we met 3 (2 from nyc and one from Colorado)!!! So a first for us!!!

So, walking, talking, matt thinking that maybe he'd do the whole Camino, but thinking it depends on which girls are on the camino too!!!

2nd half of the Real-Madrid game is starting, 1-1 tie right now. This reminds me of the time we all went to a place in Arosa, Switzerland one February break because I had to be in Zurich for the end of the week. It must have been 2000, and Matt is 7 years old-- and everyone is exhausted, and the girls go to bed-- and matt and I are playing pool at 2am in Arosa and there is a band from California playing surfing music and we had a great time-- so I guess this is an outgrowth of that--- the kid likes to stay up late, is negligent of time zones, and is one hair closer to being taller than me tonight than yesterday.

The meaning of life???? Okay, we didn't solve that one today but I think we established some nice guidelines and Elo's thoughts are just fine if Matt follows that path--- the one where you truly define and find what you love, and then you go and do it for you, which ultimately will always be for others, because "loving what you do" has to do with serving!!!

Peace
From Melide, Spain, Pulpo capital of the World!!!!!! And Matt's truly first Octopus experience!!!!! And his first live televised soccer game from Spain

And his first Camino--

And his only dad!!! Proudly watching it all-

Peace
